Ramsbury FC deserve 3-0 win over Cricklade FC in a feisty encounter at the Cricklade Leisure Centre Ground.
It was a tough game on a very rough and lumpy pitch that saw little quality from both teams in the first half. Ramsbury FC had the better play and pressure, but failed to capitalise on a string of chances. Late and poorly timed tackles were prevalent and Sean was getting frustrated with Ramsbury having most of the play but making too many unforced errors. It was not a good watch!
Both teams had regular chats from the Referee and after too many niggles and rash challenges he booked Adam and the opposition right wing to set an example. It was unlucky for Adam who was on the wrong end of the refs frustration. The play did improve a bit and a clear push on Ali resulted in a penalty that was converted by Charlie and this was the difference in the first half as Ramsbury led 1-0.
Sean had a frank chat with the team at half time and the difference in the second half was clear. Ramsbury were on the front foot, pressed and contained Cricklade to long punts upfield which was dealt easily by Chris and James and Proccy in goal. After 15 minutes of Ramsbury dominance, a surging run on the right by Leigh saw a superb chip into the box for Rob to calmly convert and make it 2-0.
Ramsbury were in cruise control and Zac on the right and Macca, Charlie and Ali were causing mayhem and panic in the Cricklade defence. If it wasn’t for some worldy saves by the Cricklade keeper it could and should have been 4 or 5-0 as Ali, Zac and Charlie all went close. Skips came on for James as his hamstring went (get better soon mate) and Will joined Chris in defence and skips came on in midfield. This forced change kept the momentum and Ramsbury penned Cricklade into their half with constant pressure. That pressure told when Zac clear on goal and certain to score but was denied his goal by an amazing save by the Cricklade centre half who was shown a yellow card for his effort. Ali scored the penalty and saw Ramsbury ease to 3-0.
Charlie was yellow carded and sin binned for the last 10 minutes as both Ash and (new) Ash came on for Macca and Adam to see the game out and see Ramsbury win comfortably and deserve the 3-0 score line. A much better second half and a great team effort. Man of the Match went to Leigh and Shirt of Shame to Charlie for his yellow and sin bin!
See you all on Tuesday
